Desde las etapas más tempranas hasta los más mayores del Colegio el movimiento juega una parte crucial en los aprendizajes.

El movimiento incrementa el flujo sanguíneo al cerebro, modifica los neurotransmisores y favorece cambios en el SNC.

Produce un desarrollo más saludable en el niño, mejorando la memoria y la concentración y creando una actitud positiva hacia el aprendizaje.

Papel del adulto

El principal y primer rol del adulto es el de conocer, en profundidad, a cada niño del grupo. Gracias a las entrevistas iniciales y al periodo de adaptación podemos conocer tempranamente a los niños. Más tarde llegarán las propuestas, el conocimiento, el juego y la investigación. El adulto se presenta como un sostén, un apoyo al que recurrir, un sostén emocional para los niños que lo primero que tiene que ofrecer es confianza y respeto para obtener como resultado un sentimiento de seguridad por parte de los niños.

Tras conseguir esto juega un papel fundamental como facilitador de propuestas y ambientes en los cuales los niños pueden satisfacer sus necesidades, y atendiendo sobre todo a sus necesidades de aprendizaje y emocionales. El adulto ofrece las herramientas necesarias para adquirir conocimientos y desarrollar las destrezas que cada niño necesite.

Un valor fundamental en Ellaluna American School es el no interrumpir el aprendizaje/juego de los niños. Ofrecer contextos de aprendizaje autónomo en los cuales los niños puedan trabajar sin la necesidad constante y la aprobación continua del adulto. Resulta fundamental y decisivo este aspecto a la hora de realizar aprendizajes realmente significativos.

El adulto no es siempre un mero espectador. Ofrece, propone, ordena y reparte. También enseña. Y sobre todas las cosas, no juzga. El error es una valiosa herramienta de aprendizaje. El error nos acerca al conocimiento desde lo más profundo de cada niño, desde las propias limitaciones y las que nos ofrece el ambiente.

Zonas de aprendizaje

Partiendo del desarrollo y las necesidades de los niños en cada tramo de edad la adquisición de conocimiento en las clases se divide en Zonas de Aprendizaje. En cada zona hay una amplia variedad de materiales y recursos para desarrollar habilidades, destrezas, investigar y adquirir diferentes conocimientos.

En las Zonas de Aprendizaje el funcionamiento varía dependiendo de los grupos, de los niños o de sus necesidades. Las jornadas son muy largas y los tiempos en Colegio fluyen con normalidad. Habrá tiempos de aprendizaje autónomo, en gran grupo, propuestas libres u otras preparadas previamente por el adulto. No buscamos la obligatoreidad en las Zonas de Aprendizaje pero sí, y sobre todo a partir de los seis años, de fomentar la responsabilidad con el aprendizaje y que no dependa siempre de apetencias o gustos.

El Proyecto de Trabajo es una manera de trabajar el conocimiento de la realidad en la que los niños viven, se desenvuelven, maduran y avanzan. Trabajar por proyectos de trabajo supone escuchar a los niños, descubrir lo que les interesa y motiva a partir de lo que ya saben, para llegar a lo que quieren saber. Para todo ello utilizamos un aprendizaje significativo, es decir, un aprendizaje que pretende partir de lo que los niños ya saben ante la temática que se debe abordar. Los niños tienen el protagonismo en la decisión del tema elegido y las actividades. El adulto ayuda y guía a los niños a pensar e investigar, creando constantemente en la clase situaciones que les estimule a tomar decisiones, analizar, reflexionar, debatir, contrastar y buscar información.

No sólo fomentamos la adquisición de contenidos conceptuales si no que un gran peso del trabajo se centra en la metodología STEM, desarrollando una gran capacidad en la resolución de problemas y en el pensamiento científico recogido en la filosofía educativa Americana. Los estudiantes son los que deciden el ritmo y van avanzando en la adquisición de nuevos conocimientos.

El adulto no marca la duración de los proyectos de trabajo. Un proyecto tiene una duración determinada marcada por el interés y procesos de los estudiantes. Dependiendo del Proyecto de Trabajo las Zonas de Aprendizaje de las clases van siendo modificadas. El trabajo puede abordarse de manera individual y grupal.
